Rauma Marine Constructions has begun building the fourth Pohjanmaa-class corvette for the Finnish Navy, marking a key milestone as all four vessels under the Squadron 2020 program are now under construction simultaneously. The first ship, launched in May 2025, is undergoing outfitting, the second hull is close to completion, and production has started on the third and fourth units. The program will see the new corvettes replace seven legacy ships, including Rauma-class fast attack craft and Hämeenmaa-class minelayers, strengthening Finland’s surface combat capabilities. Designed for continuous operations in the Baltic Sea, the Pohjanmaa class will serve as the centerpiece of the Navy’s future fleet. Each corvette is roughly 117 meters long, 16 meters wide, crewed by around 70 personnel, and capable of speeds above 26 knots. The ships are equipped with Gabriel anti-ship missiles, Torped 47 ASW torpedoes, ESSM air-defence missiles, a 57 mm main gun, decoys, and remote weapon systems, supported by advanced radar and sonar suites and managed through Saab’s 9LV combat management system.
