Green Hills Software’s real-time operating system has been chosen by Northrop Grumman for integration into its latest GPS-upgraded navigation system supporting US military aircraft.
Northrop incorporated the INTEGRITY-178 tuMP operating system into the LN-351 Embedded GPS/Inertial Navigation System-Modernization (EGI-M), completing the first production delivery of the enhanced platform.
The EGI-M system merges inertial navigation with an M-Code-capable GPS receiver to help aircraft sustain accurate navigation and mission readiness even when GPS signals are jammed or degraded.
Running on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, the software was selected for its certified safety and security capabilities.
Its partitioned design allows several applications to operate separately on shared hardware, enabling faster updates and smoother integration of third-party software in a common mission environment.
Initial fielding of the system will support the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and F-22 Raptor fleets.
Northrop has positioned the EGI-M program as part of wider US initiatives aimed at strengthening navigation resilience against electronic warfare challenges.
After successful testing conducted since 2023, the company delivered the first production unit in April and is preparing for full-rate manufacturing.
