India is working on an advanced radar capability aimed at detecting hypersonic missiles capable of flying faster than Mach 5, exceeding 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) per hour.
Detecting such weapons remains difficult because hypersonic flight creates a plasma sheath around the missile that can obstruct traditional tracking technologies.
As the missile moves at extremely high speeds, intense atmospheric compression heats the surrounding air into ionized gas, producing a plasma layer that complicates radar observation.
