The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded QinetiQ a five-year extension to continue providing essential engineering and technical support for the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon fighter aircraft.
The £205-million ($275-million) contract centers on sustaining aircraft performance and aircrew safety, while driving down maintenance timelines and costs through advanced engineering solutions.
In addition to supporting RAF Typhoons, the agreement covers baseline technical services for UK defence forces and export customers, with QinetiQ leveraging AI-driven and digital engineering capabilities to speed up delivery.
QinetiQ confirmed it will invest £10 million to expand the application of artificial intelligence and digital tools across Typhoon sustainment and other defence support programs, in partnership with UK-based AI specialists.
The work will be executed under the Aurora Engineering Delivery Partnership, led by QinetiQ and supported by consortium members including Atkins, BMT, Frazer-Nash, KBR, and a network of more than 380 engineering service providers to the MoD.
The Eurofighter Typhoon remains the RAF’s principal air-defence platform and a frontline multirole fighter, responsible for national airspace protection and power projection missions.
The aircraft is expected to remain operational with the RAF into the 2040s, complementing the service’s F-35 Lightning II force.
