The European Commission has approved €79 million ($92.8 million) in funding for Phase 3 of the FAMOUS program, a multinational initiative led by Patria aimed at developing advanced armored vehicle capabilities for Europe.
The third phase carries a total budget of €115 million ($124 million), combining EU funding with financial contributions from participating states. Operating under the European Defence Fund, FAMOUS 3 will expand on prior work by focusing on aligning technical standards, boosting interoperability among European forces, and increasing shared components across land systems. It also seeks to lower lifecycle costs by adopting unified design frameworks and optimizing maintenance requirements.
Previous program phases produced the TRACKX vehicle, developed to evaluate new concepts in mobility and combat effectiveness. The platform weighs around 15 tons, supports up to 12 personnel including crew, and offers a payload capacity of approximately 3.5 tons. It delivers a range of about 600 kilometers and a top speed of 88 km/h.
Future development will continue to draw on Patria’s technological capabilities and those of its industrial partners to enhance the performance of next-generation armored platforms for EU nations. So far, the program has brought together 20 countries and over 50 defense companies, with EU funding across earlier stages surpassing €100 million ($117 million), alongside roughly €20 million ($23.5 million) contributed by national governments.
