The US Army has issued a $65 million contract to L3Harris Technologies for the production of rocket motors supporting the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) program.
The contract covers the manufacture of propulsion elements such as M124 motors, igniters, and exit cones, with delivery timelines spanning 2027 to 2028. ATACMS continues to serve as a key asset in the Army’s long-range strike arsenal, enabling precision engagement of high-value targets.
According to Scott Alexander, head of missile propulsion at L3Harris, the company is focused on sustaining production output to meet ongoing requirements from both US forces and international partners.
With more than three decades of involvement in the ATACMS program, L3Harris conducts major production activities at its Camden, Arkansas facility, which manufactures solid rocket motors at scale and performs thousands of hot-fire tests annually.
Complementary production takes place in Cincinnati, Ohio, where arm and firing systems for missile operations are developed.
Demand for ATACMS has expanded globally, driven by rising geopolitical tensions. Ukraine has actively used the system in combat operations, though reports in March suggested its available stock had been exhausted.
Taiwan began receiving its ordered ATACMS units in November 2024, while Morocco, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland secured additional missiles under a $227 million procurement deal signed in July 2024.
