Israeli defence company Elbit Systems has secured a $350 million deal to upgrade main battle tanks for an overseas customer, continuing its expansion in the global armored vehicle modernization market.

The four-year contract is focused on extending the operational life of the customer’s tank fleet while significantly enhancing combat capabilities through the integration of advanced digital, fire-control, and battlefield management technologies.

Planned upgrades include new-generation fire-control systems, electrically powered turret and gun drive assemblies, and improved communications and situational-awareness tools that will enable faster decision-making and more effective coordination during combat operations.

A major component of the modernization package is the introduction of AI-assisted electro-optical targeting systems capable of automatically detecting and tracking threats. Designed for all-weather, day-and-night operations, these advanced sights are expected to improve targeting accuracy and reduce engagement times in complex battlefield scenarios.

In addition to combat-system enhancements, Elbit will provide secure communications equipment, logistics support, spare parts, and long-term maintenance services to ensure the upgraded fleet remains operational for years to come.

Commenting on the contract, Elbit Systems CEO Bezhalel Machlis said the company is leveraging its broad technological expertise to deliver a fully integrated solution featuring state-of-the-art fire-control, electro-optical, communications, and other advanced subsystems.

The latest award builds on Elbit’s growing portfolio of armored vehicle upgrade programs. Earlier this year, the US Army selected the company’s Iron Fist active protection system for Bradley infantry fighting vehicles under a $228 million contract, while BAE Systems chose the same system for CV90 fleets operated by NATO countries. In late 2025, Elbit also secured a $210 million agreement to modernize Israel’s Merkava tank fleet through the integration of new electronic and mission systems.
