Front Ventures, a Swedish investment company, has secured 5 million euros ($5.9 million) in new funding to invest in Ukrainian and Nordic defense startups developing combat-tested drones, software platforms, and military communications systems.

The Stockholm-based firm said the capital was raised through an oversubscribed B-share rights offering, with demand exceeding the available allocation by 278 percent. Existing shareholders were among those participating in the financing round.

Front Ventures specializes in backing early-stage defense technology firms that have already developed functioning prototypes and are moving toward larger-scale manufacturing.

The company’s investment focus centers on startups shaped by operational experience in Ukraine, especially those working on drone technologies and battlefield software suitable for NATO-integrated markets.

According to the firm, investments from the newly raised capital will range from 200,000 to 2.5 million euros per company. Front Ventures added that it has already identified two additional defense startups for investment, although their identities have not yet been disclosed.

Among its current portfolio are SkyHunter, developer of target-assignment systems for drone interceptors; Aeromotors, a Ukrainian producer of drone propulsion systems; and Kyiv-based Black Forest Systems, which is scaling production of its SHADOX infantry drone platform.

Growing Global Interest in Ukrainian Drone Technology

Foreign investment in Ukrainian drone companies has increased significantly as wartime operational requirements continue driving rapid innovation and attracting international defense firms.

Quantum Systems expanded collaboration with Ukrainian manufacturers through joint ventures linked to drone production under the “Build with Ukraine” initiative. Volodymyr Zelensky visited the company’s facility near Munich in February 2026.

At the same time, Ukrainian startup Swarmer gained attention after securing $15 million in US funding in September 2025 to further develop AI-powered drone swarm technologies.

The startup later drew wider international focus following reports in February 2026 connecting former Blackwater founder Erik Prince to the company as it pursued expansion into NATO defense markets.

Industry-wide, Ukrainian drone developers are increasingly pairing battlefield-validated systems with Western financing and manufacturing partnerships as foreign interest in the sector continues to grow.
