Kopin Corporation has landed a $21.5-million follow-on agreement to provide thermal imaging assemblies for a portable US military weapons platform.
The company said the contract involves manufacturing a specialized eyepiece assembly for a leading US defense contractor, whose identity remains undisclosed. The assemblies are intended for detachable thermal weapon systems used by troops in challenging combat environments.
Kopin will build the modules using its in-house microdisplay technology, optical systems, drive electronics, and ruggedized enclosures. The company noted that the thermal imaging assemblies improve target detection and identification capabilities during both day and night missions.
According to Kopin, the award also reinforces domestic production capabilities for critical military vision systems and helps reduce reliance on overseas suppliers.
Growing Military Business
Over the past year, Kopin Corporation has expanded its footprint in the defense sector through several military-focused programs, delivering more than 400,000 vision-related systems and components across different contracts.
In April, the company won a $3.2-million starter contract to provide optical modules for an advanced first-person-view drone goggle program. The project could eventually involve delivery of as many as 40,000 systems by 2028 to an unnamed customer.
Earlier, in March, Kopin secured a $3.6-million contract for helmet-mounted display systems supporting an undisclosed European military helicopter program. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026 under a five-year agreement, pushing the company’s total backlog beyond $10 million.
In September 2025, the United States Army also selected Kopin for a $15.4-million contract to provide high-brightness, full-color MicroLED augmented reality displays for soldiers operating on the battlefield.
