L3Harris has secured a $250 million contract from Lockheed Martin to manufacture a record quantity of propulsion units for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), supporting efforts to increase production of the precision-guided rocket system.
The agreement covers standard-range GMLRS rockets and will be fulfilled at L3Harris’ 60,000-square-foot (5,574-square-metre) Arsenal of Freedom facility in Camden, Arkansas. The facility is scheduled to open later in 2026 and will incorporate automation and robotics to improve solid rocket motor manufacturing efficiency.
L3Harris has supplied propulsion units for GMLRS for decades and has doubled its production capacity in recent years to meet rising demand. The company also manufactures the system’s electronic safe-and-arm device and proximity sensor.
US Expands GMLRS Manufacturing Capacity
GMLRS is a precision-guided rocket compatible with the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The weapon is used by US forces and international customers for accurate long-range fire support.
Lockheed Martin continues to expand manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand, with a stated production target of 14,000 rockets annually. These efforts aim to strengthen supply availability for US military requirements and allied procurement programs.
In December 2025, L3Harris received a separate contract valued at up to $200 million to manufacture propulsion units for the GMLRS Insensitive Munition variant. Earlier, in August 2024, Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics announced a partnership to establish an additional source of solid rocket motors for the GMLRS program.
