Rheinmetall has awarded Theon Sensors a contract to deliver a stabilized electro-optical system for its CT25 turret fire control solution for armored vehicles. Under the agreement, Theon’s PHYLAX sensor suite will be integrated into Rheinmetall Electronics’ SEOSS 210 P sight, designed for 25mm lightweight turret configurations, including the Luchs 2 reconnaissance platform. The deal encompasses development, testing, and serial production, with an initial contract value exceeding €40 million ($47 million) and potential for wider adoption across other systems.
The PHYLAX suite combines a daytime imaging system, thermal sensor, and laser rangefinder within a stabilized unit, significantly enhancing detection capabilities and situational awareness in combat scenarios.
Rheinmetall has also been strengthening its network of European defense partnerships as it scales manufacturing and upgrades armored platforms to meet NATO operational demands. Earlier this year, it signed an agreement with Swedish steel producer SSAB to utilize fossil-free, decarbonized steel in defense production—marking a first for the sector.
In July 2024, the company established a joint venture with Leonardo to advance next-generation tank and infantry fighting vehicle programs in Italy, contributing to Europe’s industrial resilience in land systems. Concurrently, Rheinmetall increased cooperation with Ukraine’s defense industry to support ammunition manufacturing and sustainment of military vehicles during the ongoing war.
