The US State Department has cleared a potential $83.14 million sale of GMLRS-Alternative Warheads to Singapore under the Foreign Military Sales program. The package includes 45 M30A2 GMLRS-AW pods from Lockheed Martin, along with telemetry equipment, technical support, and logistics services.
The proposed deal is expected to strengthen Singapore’s defense capabilities, improve coordination with allied forces, and support regional stability.
The GMLRS-AW can be launched from both HIMARS and M270 systems. Singapore currently operates about 24 HIMARS launchers, which are being upgraded to support more advanced and longer-range munitions. Analysts indicate these upgrades could enable the use of rockets such as the GMLRS-ER, with a range of up to 150 km, and the Precision Strike Missile, capable of reaching 400–500 km.
By comparison, the GMLRS-AW has a range of over 70 km and carries a 200-pound fragmentation warhead that releases around 160,000 tungsten fragments. This allows it to effectively target dispersed threats such as troops, light vehicles, and air defense systems while minimizing collateral damage.
