Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has finalized a €140 million supply agreement with Patria to equip German and Swedish CAVS 6×6 armored vehicle fleets with its Protector RS4 remote weapon stations.
The contract provides for the delivery of hundreds of RS4 units, with production and integration scheduled through 2026 and beyond, supporting long-term fleet modernization programs in both countries.
Germany’s contribution to the program includes a $2.3 billion acquisition of 876 CAVS vehicles, while Sweden is procuring 94 vehicles, expanding on a 321-unit agreement concluded in March 2024.
Germany’s configuration will also incorporate Patria’s NEMO mortar turret on selected platforms, expanding indirect-fire capability within the CAVS fleet architecture.
RS4 System Architecture
The Protector RS4 is designed as a highly adaptable remote weapon platform capable of integrating small- to medium-caliber weapons, coaxial systems, and ATGMs within a single stabilized architecture.
Its 2+2 axis fully stabilized Detached Line of Sight system allows sensors and weapons to operate independently, ensuring continuous tracking and high-precision engagements while the vehicle is in motion.
Built for cross-domain deployment, the RS4 supports both land and maritime operations, offering consistent performance in stationary and maneuvering scenarios.
Advanced electro-optical sensor suites and modular camera systems provide configurable day/night operational capability, enabling mission-specific customization.
Depending on configuration, the RS4 weighs between 135 and 190 kg and measures 505–765 mm in height, excluding armament and ammunition, supporting integration across multiple platform classes.
