Renault Group and Thales have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly design and mass-produce the Toutatis loitering munition, targeting a manufacturing rate of up to 1,000 systems each month.
Revealed at the recent Eurosatory defense event in Paris, the collaboration leverages Thales’ advanced defense expertise and Renault’s extensive industrial production infrastructure to reinforce France’s domestic UAS manufacturing ecosystem.
The project forms part of a broader European push to strengthen indigenous defense industries and lessen reliance on overseas drone providers. The initiative has been influenced by insights from the war in Ukraine, which highlighted the importance of scalable and sovereign unmanned systems production.
