Bell Textron has partnered with Korea Aerospace Industries to study possible solutions for South Korea’s High Speed Medium Utility Helicopter initiative.
The agreement centers on evaluating variants based on Bell’s MV-75 tiltrotor aircraft, a platform designed to combine helicopter-like vertical takeoff and landing capability with higher speed and longer range than conventional rotary-wing systems.
Through the collaboration, the two companies will assess whether the platform can meet the Republic of Korea’s operational demands, particularly in areas such as maneuverability, speed, and mission range.
The study will also examine the use of a modular open systems architecture that would simplify future upgrades and integration of mission equipment, weapons, and other subsystems without extensive redesign.
The partnership additionally includes consideration of industrial cooperation opportunities, such as localized manufacturing and integration work as the program moves forward.
KAI Strengthens Defense Development Efforts
Korea Aerospace Industries has continued advancing major defense programs while expanding ties with industry partners.
In March, the company introduced the first production-standard KF-21 Boramae fighter for the Republic of Korea Air Force, marking an important step in South Korea’s long-running indigenous fighter development effort.
Subject to final validation, the aircraft is expected to officially enter service in September.
KAI has also increased collaboration with other defense companies.
Earlier this year, the firm signed an agreement with Hanwha Aerospace focused on unmanned systems, aircraft propulsion technologies, and commercial space ventures.
Meanwhile, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions partnered with KAI in 2025 to support the development of future manned-unmanned teaming capabilities.
