India’s Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) and AM General have entered into a strategic partnership to offer next-generation artillery platforms to military customers across global markets.
At the heart of the agreement is the Mounted Artillery Gun (MArG), a 155mm weapon system introduced by KSSL in 2025 and recognized as the first of its kind integrated onto a 4×4 mobility platform. The artillery system is designed to combine mobility, firepower, and deployment flexibility in a lightweight package suitable for a wide range of operational environments.
The MArG is installed on a 30-foot vehicle, requires a crew of six, and can reach a maximum weight of 24 tonnes based on mission configuration. It delivers a rapid-fire capability of three rounds within 30 seconds and can sustain up to 42 rounds per hour. Compatible with 39-, 45-, and 52-caliber guns, the system offers engagement ranges beyond 40 kilometers.
The partnership also extends to a joint bid for the US Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon program, which aims to procure over 400 wheeled artillery systems as replacements for the M777 towed howitzer fleet starting in 2027. Industry expectations point to a contract decision by July 2026.
Both companies stated that the initiative highlights their confidence in providing advanced, mission-ready artillery capabilities capable of meeting the demands of modern and evolving combat environments.
