GE Aerospace and StandardAero have joined forces to manufacture and sustain the CT7-2E1 propulsion systems selected for the UK Armed Forces’ New Medium Helicopter (NMH) fleet. The partnership comes after Leonardo chose the CT7 engine for its 23 AW149 helicopters, which are set to replace several legacy rotorcraft, including the Dauphin, Griffin, Puma, and Twin Huey, under the NMH modernization program. Leonardo was awarded the prime contract in March 2026, which includes the supply of AW149 helicopters, flight simulators, engines, spare components, long-term support packages, and provisions for future export sales. StandardAero’s contribution will be centered at its Gosport, England, facility, expanding its position within GE Aerospace’s UK-based CT7 production and maintenance network. The project is expected to strengthen the domestic aerospace workforce through apprenticeship opportunities, skills development, education initiatives, and additional employment while supporting broader economic and sustainability goals. The agreement also extends StandardAero’s long-standing relationship with the UK Ministry of Defence, spanning more than 40 years. The company currently supports the Royal Air Force’s Chinook fleet and provides engine overhaul, logistics, materials management, and technical assistance for the British Army’s Apache AH-64E helicopters.
