Adani Defence & Aerospace has unveiled the ULM-ER, an extended-range UAV-launched missile that represents the most advanced evolution of its precision-guided munition family. Also designated ULPGM-V3, the system has been developed in collaboration with Research Centre Imarat and is set to play a central role in India’s growing focus on armed drone operations and swarm-based warfare strategies.

The ULM-ER builds on lessons learned from earlier ULPGM variants that were inducted into service by the Indian Army under emergency procurement. While those systems validated drone-based precision strike concepts, the V3 variant significantly enhances capability through extended range, improved propulsion, and sophisticated guidance systems.

With a weight of around 12.5 kg, the missile is optimized for deployment from advanced UAV platforms, including ISR and logistics drones like the MR-20. Its operational range of up to 10 km enables launch platforms to remain outside hostile air defence zones, fundamentally improving survivability and mission flexibility.

At its core, the ULM-ER uses a dual-thrust solid rocket motor that delivers sustained energy and better maneuverability during flight. Its upgraded guidance suite—featuring a dual-channel IIR seeker combined with passive laser homing—ensures accurate targeting in all weather conditions and supports both fire-and-forget and coordinated targeting modes.

The progression from ULPGM-VI to ULM-ER illustrates a clear advancement path. Earlier variants offered limited range and basic guidance, while intermediate versions added propulsion upgrades and datalink capabilities. In contrast, the ULM-ER integrates propulsion efficiency, advanced sensing, and network-centric targeting into a single, highly capable system.

In operational terms, the missile is being incorporated into swarm drone architectures, where it functions as a precision strike asset within distributed unmanned formations. This enables coordinated reconnaissance and attack missions, allowing drones to neutralize high-value targets such as armored assets, bunkers, and key infrastructure.

From a strategic perspective, the ULM-ER fills a crucial capability gap between loitering munitions like SkyStriker and larger missile systems. It provides a cost-efficient yet highly effective strike option, particularly suited for high-altitude and contested operational environments, enhancing the lethality and versatility of India’s drone fleet.
