South Korea has begun upgrading its Black Hawk fleet, with more than 30 UH/HH-60 helicopters scheduled for modernization under a $715-million program. Led by Korean Air and supported by LIG Nex1 and Collins Aerospace, the initiative will replace outdated cockpits with digital systems, add survival and navigation enhancements, and introduce automatic hover technology. Radar warning receivers and survival management computers will strengthen survivability in contested missions. The project emphasizes domestic capacity-building, targeting over 50 new technology developments and reinforcing Korea’s defense industry. Completion of the modernization is planned for 2029.
