BAE Systems Hägglunds has signed a partnership with Rheinmetall to equip the new CV90120 light tank with the L44A1 120mm low-recoil gun.

A next-generation variant of the proven CV90 infantry fighting vehicle, the CV90120 is built on the MkIV chassis, offering a new powerpack, enhanced transmission, modernized digital suite, and active protection measures for superior survivability.

The design also enhances fleet commonality, allowing current CV90 operators to streamline maintenance, training, and logistics across shared systems.

The L44A1 is an improved derivative of Rheinmetall’s classic 120mm L/44 smoothbore cannon, which serves on main battle tanks like the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams. The updated version features reduced recoil and a muzzle brake, enabling integration on light armored vehicles while preserving firing stability and performance.

It is compatible with all NATO-standard 120mm ammunition, including programmable HE and enhanced kinetic-energy rounds, ensuring full battlefield interoperability.
