Northrop Grumman has joined forces with Taiwanese partners Ramatek, Champion Auto, and Vivian & Vincent International Trading to deliver the AN/TPS-78 Advanced Capabilities (ADCAP) radar to Taiwan.
Operating in the S-band, the radar minimizes interference while maintaining reliable performance in congested signal environments. Its stacked beam configuration allows the detection of both low- and high-altitude targets under all weather conditions.
Compact and transportable, the system supports rapid deployment and simplified logistics. It is already fielded by the U.S. Air Force and several international users, offering long-range air surveillance with coverage up to 240 nautical miles (444 km/275 miles).
The radar provides 5- or 10-second scan rates, making it suitable for missions ranging from ground-controlled intercepts to ballistic missile tracking. Its ADCAP upgrade enhances performance against small drones and maritime targets, using automated tracking and filtering to maintain accuracy while reducing false alarms.
Easily deployed by a team of four in under 30 minutes, the radar can be transported via C-130 aircraft, helicopter, truck, or rail.
