Latvia’s defense-tech startup Origin Robotics and Estonia’s Defsecintel Solutions have inked a memorandum of understanding to back the European Union’s cross-border “drone wall” project, set to counter repeated Russian airspace incursions across Europe’s eastern flank.

Announced during Estonian Defence Week, the deal will merge Defsecintel’s mobile Eirshield counter-drone system with Origin’s autonomous interceptor Blaze drone.

Together, they intend to deliver a turnkey, field-ready system that offers users a fully integrated, mobile, and cost-efficient solution against diverse drone threats.

Eirshield Counter-Drone System
Eirshield is an AI-augmented ultra-short-range air defence platform designed to counter a wide range of aerial threats—both rotor and fixed-wing drones. Refined through deployments in Ukraine, the all-terrain mobile system fuses multiple sensors and effectors to detect and neutralize hostile UAVs. It uses radar for detection out to 8 km, alongside radio-frequency and electro-optical/infrared sensors for threat verification and classification. Once a threat is confirmed, it leverages AI support to track and jam RF and satellite-navigation signals. Eirshield supports integration with soft-kill interceptor drones, and can also connect to hard-kill effectors like machine guns or missiles.

Blaze Interceptor
Blaze is a man-portable, operator-supervised interceptor that can be rapidly deployed to defeat drones that evade traditional air defences. Powered by onboard AI and computer vision, it acquires, tracks, and identifies high-speed aerial targets, including loitering munitions. It neutralizes targets either by direct impact or by detonating a fragmentation warhead near the target. The operator retains final decision authority—able to redirect, abort, or self-destruct the mission if necessary. Its transport case doubles as a launch pad and charging station, enabling no-tool setup: in under 10 minutes the system is ready for flight, launching the first interceptor in less than 5 minutes, with subsequent launches possible in under 1 minute.
