At the United States Army Yuma Proving Ground, testing is underway on a rocket-assisted artillery round that could redefine the Army’s long-range firepower.
The Next-Generation Rocket Assisted Projectile (NGRAP) is engineered to extend engagement distances beyond the 30-kilometer reach of current artillery platforms, including conventional 155mm howitzers, while enhancing strike precision.
In addition to expanding range, the new munition is expected to phase out the aging M549A1 rocket-assisted round, a system that has been in service for more than five decades, as noted by Steve Flores, Long Range Precision Fire Integrator at YPG.
