Sweden has signed contracts worth about $454 million with BAE Systems and Saab to strengthen its ground-based air and drone defense capabilities. The deals are part of a wider investment exceeding $900 million focused on enhancing radar, anti-aircraft, and electronic warfare systems.
BAE Systems Bofors received a $180 million contract to supply the Tridon Mk2, a truck-mounted 40mm air defense system designed to close capability gaps. The system can engage multiple targets, including drones, cruise missiles, and aircraft, and can also counter ground threats such as armored vehicles to safeguard military forces and key infrastructure.
Separately, Saab secured a 2.6-billion Swedish krona ($274 million) contract to deliver a modular counter-drone system. Although the system name has not been disclosed, Saab described it as an integrated solution combining sensors, effectors, and third-party technologies into a platform compatible with existing defense networks.
Reports indicate the system will feature the Giraffe 1X radar and a Trackfire Remote Weapon Station with a 30mm cannon, mounted on the SISU GTP 4×4 vehicle used by Sweden and Finland. Deliveries are expected between 2027 and 2028.
