Slovakia has signed a framework deal to provide Azerbaijan with its locally produced SAM-120 self-propelled mortar systems, according to Pravda.

The agreement was formalized during the World Defense Show in Riyadh between state-owned manufacturer ZŤS Špeciál and Azerbaijan’s Iglin Scientific Production Enterprise.

Under the terms, 96 units will be delivered initially, with options extending to 300 systems subject to Azerbaijan’s defense requirements. The first order is worth 210 million euros ($249 million), and manufacturing will commence without delay.

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák described the contract as the largest of its kind, noting that the inaugural unit will be presented in Baku at a defense exhibition in autumn 2026. He also indicated that discussions are planned on licensing and the potential localization of production in Azerbaijan.

SAM-120 Weapon System
Introduced in 2024, the 120mm SAM-120 is a turret-mounted, fully automated artillery platform featuring a 35-round ammunition magazine. It delivers a maximum range of roughly 8 kilometers and can sustain a firing rate of up to 20 rounds per minute.

Manned by two to four operators, the system provides full 360-degree rotational capability to engage targets in any direction.
