The UK government has granted £12 million ($16.2 million) to Amentum UK to design and test a hypersonic missile demonstrator, marking a key step toward a national high-speed strike system.

The effort aims to produce prototypes exceeding Mach 5 and engineered to withstand severe thermal and mechanical loads during flight.

Working with subcontractors Ebeni and Synthetik Applied Technologies UK Ltd, Amentum will lead the engineering phase under the Team Hypersonics (UK) banner, part of a broader program to operationalize hypersonic capability by the end of the decade.
