L3Harris Technologies has secured a landmark full-rate production deal to supply submarine communications equipment for 26 shipsets aboard Virginia- and Columbia-class boats, under contract from General Dynamics Electric Boat.
The systems will modernize onboard communications, delivering secure and resilient information-sharing capabilities to improve mission effectiveness. The agreement runs through 2033 and may expand to future Columbia-class vessels or allied submarine operators.
The contract reinforces the company’s deep involvement in US Navy submarine programs, having previously supported Ohio- and Los Angeles-class fleets.
The Virginia-class submarine is a versatile fast-attack submarine tasked with anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare, strike missions, and ISR duties. Stretching 377 feet and displacing about 10,200 tons, it carries advanced torpedoes and cruise missiles.
The larger Columbia-class submarine will succeed the Ohio-class, serving as the future cornerstone of US strategic deterrence with cutting-edge stealth, sensors, and ballistic missile capabilities.
