An Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 Globemaster strategically transported a HAL-manufactured Dornier 228 (H-228) aircraft to Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana, marking a major step in boosting the country’s civil aviation capacity. The delivery demonstrates India’s commitment to supporting aviation infrastructure development in partner nations.
A second C-17 carrying another Dornier 228 is expected to arrive soon, further bolstering Guyana’s aviation fleet. This phased delivery aligns with the broader India–Guyana cooperation framework, aimed at enhancing nationwide connectivity and access to remote regions.
The recent transfer follows India’s earlier delivery of two Dornier 228 aircraft in March 2024 under a Line of Credit, reinforcing a “robust and growing partnership,” according to the High Commission of India in Guyana. The initiative underscores the mutual commitment to regional development and improved integration of hinterland areas with major urban centers, unlocking economic and social benefits.
The Acting High Commissioner formally received the aircraft and interacted with the IAF crew and HAL representatives, praising the efficient coordination between India’s defense and aerospace sectors.
With the addition of these aircraft, Guyana’s civil aviation network will gain enhanced capacity to operate in remote and underserved areas, ensuring reliable air connectivity in regions challenged by limited ground infrastructure.
