Greece’s Hellenic Navy has selected Schiebel’s Camcopter S-100 unmanned air system for deployment aboard its trio of French-built FDI-class frigates. While the terms of the procurement have not been made public, integration of the first system is set to begin this spring on HS Kimon (F601). The ship, delivered to Greece in January, is scheduled to receive progressive capability enhancements through 2029, culminating in the Standard 2++ configuration.
In addition to the embarked systems, the navy will operate one S-100 from shore to facilitate training and strengthen crew proficiency. The first group of Greek operators is expected to complete training by spring 2026.
Subsequent S-100 units will be installed on HS Nearchos and HS Formion, due to enter service in late 2026 and early 2027.
The S-100 is a VTOL unmanned aircraft designed for round-the-clock operations in both maritime and adverse weather environments. It supports missions at ranges of up to 200 kilometers and can function autonomously through pre-set GPS waypoints or under direct operator control.
Equipped with advanced imaging systems, including the Wescam MX-10 EO/IR sensor and the Overwatch PT-8 Oceanwatch payload, the drone will bolster the navy’s operational reach in maritime surveillance, search and rescue, EEZ monitoring, environmental protection, and anti-submarine warfare tasks.
