France has completed its delivery of armored personnel carriers to the Lebanese Armed Forces, reinforcing its pledge to improve Lebanon’s ground mobility and defense capabilities. The shipment comprises 39 VAB (Armored Forward Vehicle) units, originally developed for French forces and in service since the 1980s.

The handover ceremony took place at Beirut’s port, with French Ambassador Hervé Magro, Lebanese Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Hassan Audi, and senior officials from both nations in attendance. Lebanese authorities used the occasion to underscore the deepening ties between France and Lebanon while reaffirming their dedication to national security.

The transfer was first announced by President Emmanuel Macron in late March as part of France’s broader support for Lebanon’s territorial security and civilian protection.

Lebanon remains under pressure from persistent security and humanitarian issues driven by regional instability. The March 2026 killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei escalated tensions further, leading to retaliatory strikes by Hezbollah against Israel. Backed by Iran since the 1980s, Hezbollah is widely viewed as part of a regional alliance opposed to Israeli and Western influence.
