France has placed a multi-year contract with KNDS Ammo France for the supply of next-generation Shard armor-piercing rounds to arm its upgraded Leclerc XLR tanks.
The seven-year deal, valued at more than 100 million euros, calls for delivery of thousands of rounds beginning in 2029. Eurenco will contribute energetic materials, including the propellant and sabot elements.
Built to replace the OFL F1, the Shard round features an advanced tungsten penetrator and proprietary high-density alloy. Its optimized design improves penetration against advanced armored threats while its higher muzzle velocity is intended to narrow the engagement window for enemy hard-kill defenses.
