Uruguay has officially inducted its first two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into service, delivered by Embraer as part of a 2024 procurement deal.

The contract encompasses six aircraft, mission equipment, a simulator, and integrated logistics services to support the Uruguayan Air Force’s fleet renewal and operational modernization efforts.

Company leadership emphasized the historic relationship between the two nations, recalling that Uruguay was Embraer’s earliest export customer.

The A-29, flown by 22 air forces globally, is known for its durability, affordability, and performance in rugged conditions. It supports missions ranging from pilot training and close air support to border patrol and armed ISR.

Recent upgrades introduced in 2025 added advanced counter-drone features, including EO/IR targeting systems, precision-guided rockets, heavy machine guns, and digital maintenance tools from ILIAS Solutions.
