Embraer of Brazil and Colombia’s Aeronautical Industry Corporation (CIAC) have entered into a new agreement to enhance industrial cooperation, with the objective of bolstering Colombia’s aerospace sector. The deal provides a framework for collaboration across manufacturing, maintenance, and technical innovation.

The partnership also opens the door for CIAC to become part of Embraer’s global supply network, especially in military aviation projects. Aircraft that may be included in the collaboration include the A-29 Super Tucano and the KC-390 Millennium.

Rather than focusing solely on platforms, the agreement emphasizes capability building. Both parties are expected to pursue knowledge transfer, workforce development, and the expansion of local technical skills, strengthening Colombia’s position as a regional center for aerospace production and maintenance.

Colombia continues to emerge as a key player in the defense and aerospace sector, supported by both procurement initiatives and domestic industrial growth. Embraer already has a notable presence in the country, with around 50 aircraft in service across multiple segments, including A-29 Super Tucanos operated by the Colombian Air Force.

Meanwhile, Colombia is enhancing its domestic production capabilities. The state-owned shipbuilder COTECMAR recently delivered the offshore patrol vessel ARC 24 de Julio, representing the most advanced warship built locally to date.

On the airpower front, Colombia has also taken a significant step by agreeing to purchase 17 Gripen fighter jets from Saab, in a deal estimated at $4.3 billion.
