Patria and the city of Hämeenlinna are set to formalize a new partnership designed to boost the local defense industry and industrial capabilities.

The proposed cooperation framework includes plans for infrastructure expansion, workforce skill development, and collaborative defense projects. Among the initiatives under consideration are a dedicated demonstration center for regional defense companies and the creation of new industrial operating environments.

Implementation of the agreement would be managed by a joint steering group comprising representatives from both Patria and the city administration, with the arrangement intended to continue until further notice.

Hämeenlinna has traditionally played a central role in Patria’s operations, serving as one of the company’s major armored vehicle centers backed by a broad supplier and industrial network.

The move aligns with Patria’s broader push to deepen defense cooperation throughout Europe. Earlier in May, the Finnish firm signed agreements with Czech government-owned defense entities such as the Military Technical Institute, Military Research Institute, and VOP CZ as Prague evaluates options for a future 8×8 armored vehicle program.

Patria also expanded ties with Ukraine in April through cooperation agreements with Double Tap Investments and the IRON Cluster, focusing on defense innovation, testing, and technology collaboration. The agreements were signed during the Drone Autonomy conference in Lviv.

Meanwhile, the European Commission recently approved 79 million euros ($92.8 million) in funding for the third stage of the FAMOUS multinational armored vehicle initiative headed by Patria. Including national contributions, the program’s total budget stands at 115 million euros ($124 million).
