Saab has announced the Blekinge-class A26, claiming it to be the world’s first submarine with a true fifth-generation combat design.
The platform supports seabed-level operations and can launch unmanned underwater vehicles, special-forces delivery craft, and advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance payloads, along with multiple undersea weapons.
Thanks to its very quiet acoustic profile, the A26 is built to penetrate dense sonar networks—particularly in environments like the Baltic—and function as a stealth surveillance asset that is nearly impossible to detect.
