R2S, the joint venture between Raytheon and Rafael, has won a $1.25-billion deal to supply Israel with Tamir air-defense missiles along with associated kits and testing equipment. The contract was announced alongside the launch of a $33-million production facility in East Camden, Arkansas, designed to scale up Iron Dome interceptor manufacturing for Israel.
The new factory will produce Tamir warheads for the Iron Dome system, which has protected Israeli cities since 2011 using radar-guided missiles with a reported interception success of over 95 percent. It will later assemble the SkyHunter variant destined for the US Marine Corps.
The Camden facility is connected to Raytheon’s Highland Industrial Park manufacturing base and is expected to create around 60 jobs. In parallel, Raytheon recently revealed a $400-million investment to build a major solid rocket motor production center in the same region, spanning 110 acres and set to increase output over six times.
The campus will manufacture rocket motors for interceptors, hypersonic weapons, and other air and missile defense systems used by US forces and global partners.
