BAE Systems and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) have formalized an agreement to jointly pursue next-generation unmanned aerial system (UAS) development, reinforcing cooperation between the UK and Turkey in advanced aerospace technologies. The memorandum of understanding outlines a framework for collaboration on design, engineering, and manufacturing of scalable drone platforms. The initiative combines BAE’s extensive experience in autonomous flight and combat air systems with TAI’s proven record in producing endurance and strike UAS. BAE’s history with experimental aircraft such as Taranis and Mantis, along with ongoing work on the loyal wingman project within the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), provides the technical foundation for innovation. Meanwhile, TAI brings operational platforms including the Anka, Aksungur, and Anka III drones, alongside development programs for the Kaan fighter and Hurjet trainer jet. The companies intend to leverage complementary strengths in AI, sensor integration, and mission autonomy to develop systems suited for both military and export markets. The collaboration supports broader NATO interoperability and strengthens transnational defense partnerships. It also aligns with global trends toward unmanned teaming concepts and flexible, cost-efficient aerial platforms. By combining industrial capabilities and sharing technical expertise, BAE and TAI seek to accelerate innovation cycles while expanding opportunities for international collaboration in the unmanned aviation sector.
