A Leonardo-Rheinmetall partnership has been awarded a contract to supply 21 Lynx KF-41 IFVs to the Italian Army, representing the first procurement under the A2CS (Army Armoured Combat System) initiative. The broader program aims to field approximately 1,000 advanced combat vehicles.
The initial delivery will include five Lance-turret variants by Rheinmetall and 16 Hitfist 30mm versions by Leonardo. The agreement allows for future fleet standardization to the Hitfist model, additional orders for 30 units, and the supply of training and simulation infrastructure to enhance crew proficiency.
The first delivery is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
KF41 Capabilities
Introduced as a larger, upgraded version of the KF31 (2016), the KF41 Lynx features a flexible modular design that separates the drive platform from mission-specific modules, ensuring operational versatility.
With a combat weight of 50 tonnes, it can carry a three-person crew and eight troops. Its 850-kilowatt engine delivers 1,140 horsepower, reaching a top speed of 65 km/h.
The standard Lance 2.0 turret integrates a 35mm Wotan cannon and dual mission pods, capable of hosting Spike LR2 missiles, loitering munitions, EW systems, or UAV payloads.
Protection measures include layered defensive systems—active, passive, and reactive—designed to neutralize RPGs and anti-tank threats. The KF41’s reconfigurable architecture supports diverse operational roles such as infantry assault, command post, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, and field maintenance.
