The US Army has approved the XM204 terrain-shaping munition for deployment in Europe after successful trials.

Tested at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, the XM204 demonstrated its anti-vehicle “standoff and top attack” capabilities and has now entered low-rate production in Oklahoma.

Project Manager Close Contact Systems confirmed the system’s reliability, safety, and overall performance, developed in partnership with Textron Systems.

Designed for rapid battlefield deployment, the XM204 can be quickly installed, relocated, and operated independently or with other terrain-shaping munitions.

The launcher deploys multiple submunitions, each equipped with sensors to detect enemy vehicles and neutralize them using explosively formed penetrators.

Unarmed units can be recovered and repositioned, giving troops operational flexibility. Additional features include tamper resistance, armed/safe indicators, and self-destruct timers.
