The DRDO has completed the maiden flight trial of India’s Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS), a domestically developed shield that fuses missile systems with a directed-energy laser.
Designed as a layered defense architecture, the IADWS links surface-to-air missiles, short-range interceptors, and a high-power laser to provide protection against diverse aerial threats.
The laser element introduces a new capability, allowing fast, precise engagement of low-altitude and high-speed targets.
