General Atomics AeroTec Systems has unveiled the Do228 NXT, a next-generation aircraft tailored for rapid-response maritime and border operations in complex and high-demand environments. Designed for flexibility, the platform’s short takeoff and landing capability allows it to operate from isolated, rough, and austere airfields where conventional aircraft cannot.

The Do228 NXT integrates advanced avionics, including an autopilot system, modern navigation suites, dual attitude and air data systems, and multiple safety layers such as terrain and collision warning systems, enabling safer operations while reducing pilot workload during intensive missions. With a length of 16.56 meters, a wingspan of 16.97 meters, and a height of 4.86 meters, the aircraft provides generous internal space for mission systems and specialized payloads.

Driven by twin Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop engines, the aircraft can operate up to 25,000 feet and maintain a cruise speed of 240 knots, supporting long-endurance maritime and border surveillance missions. Its adaptable design supports a wide range of roles, including coastal patrol, naval reconnaissance, underwater infrastructure protection, environmental surveillance, and search-and-rescue operations across challenging maritime regions such as the North Sea and Baltic Sea.

An in-flight roller door enables the controlled deployment of rescue equipment during over-water operations, enhancing mission safety and effectiveness. The Do228 NXT will be officially showcased at Navy Tech 2026 in Sweden, where it will be presented to defense and maritime security stakeholders.
