GORE-TEX Labs has launched a new line of PYRAD flame-retardant combat suits engineered to keep troops cool, protected, and agile even in temperatures above 30°C (86°F).

The suits deliver flash-flame protection through lightweight, highly breathable, and flexible materials that avoid the bulk and heat retention associated with conventional flame-resistant fabrics.
The design uses tailored laminates, incorporating lighter textiles in low-stress areas and reinforced sections at common impact points such as the shoulders, elbows, and knees.

Evaluations with elite units and naval teams across the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Pacific confirmed the suits retain their protective performance under plate carriers and rough conditions, while enhancing endurance and overall readiness.

GORE-TEX has also introduced other soldier-focused innovations, including a new lightweight jacket optimized for cold, windy operational settings.

Global Advances in Combat Uniforms
Modernization programs worldwide increasingly prioritize flame resistance, climate versatility, and improved mobility.
The Nordic Combat Uniform system, rolled out in 2025, uses a multi-layer approach and integrates flame-retardant elements to increase survivability in extreme climates.

Turkey has developed its own next-generation uniforms through Raff Military Textile, combining fire resistance with water-repellent and insect-repellent treatments for use in hot and tropical zones.

Meanwhile, private manufacturers like Crye Precision are advancing the field, with the G3.5 Series offering flame-resistant, moisture-managing combat apparel optimized for movement, airflow, and comfort.
