In a step to deepen strategic ties, South Korea and Malaysia have entered a defense cooperation agreement covering joint development and modernization projects.
The accord introduces a government-to-government framework to support Malaysia’s military upgrade plans, including programs for aircraft, ships, and missiles.
It encourages collaborative R&D, co-production of defense assets, and global joint marketing opportunities.
DAPA highlighted that the agreement reflects years of cooperation and mutual confidence, noting it is only the second defense industry pact Malaysia has ever signed.
Seoul reaffirmed its intent to serve as a reliable partner in Malaysia’s defense modernization and regional stability efforts.
The partnership builds on past defense exchanges, starting with K200 vehicles in 1993 and followed by Malaysia’s 2023 acquisition of 18 FA-50 jets worth $920 million.
