Dutch firm Robin Radar Systems has rolled out an extended-range version of its IRIS counter-drone radar, aimed at bolstering defenses against loitering munitions such as the Shahed UAV.
The upgrade, enabled entirely through software, introduces a Long-Range Mode that allows operators to toggle between 5 km (3.1 mi) and 12 km (7.5 mi) detection ranges within minutes. This flexibility gives defenders extra reaction time against Shaheds, which can reach speeds above 180 km/h (111 mph).
The system builds on lessons learned from extensive use in Ukraine, where feedback from frontline operators shaped its refinement. Weighing 29 kg (64 lbs), the IRIS is optimized to detect small, fast, low-signature drones while filtering out clutter such as birds.
The radar provides 360° azimuth and 60° elevation coverage, delivering early warning and accurate tracking even on the move. Like earlier versions, it integrates seamlessly into multi-sensor counter-UAS systems and can be upgraded in the field without hardware replacement.
