Under its LASSO program, the U.S. Army has placed the HERO‑90 loitering munition into an accelerated evaluation track aimed at strengthening infantry anti‑armor firepower. The move underscores the service’s intent to rapidly assess man‑portable precision strike systems for dismounted forces, driven by lessons emerging from recent high‑intensity and peer‑level conflicts.

Announced by Mistral Inc. and UVision, the selection brings HERO‑90 into a time‑sensitive assessment process managed by Program Executive Office Soldier. Although no acquisition decision has been made, participation in LASSO positions the system for close scrutiny in terms of combat effectiveness, ease of integration, and readiness for rapid fielding. The program is designed to identify solutions that can quickly augment infantry units operating in contested environments.
