HENSOLDT has secured radar orders exceeding €100 million as part of the German-led European Sky Shield Initiative, reinforcing its position as a key sensor supplier for Europe’s evolving air defense architecture.

The contracts, placed through Diehl Defence, include the delivery of additional TRML-4D radars with integrated maintenance and training packages for use with IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems across several ESSI participants.

Built around active electronically scanned array technology, the TRML-4D provides simultaneous detection, tracking, and classification of diverse aerial threats, ranging from drones and cruise missiles to rockets and conventional aircraft.

HENSOLDT noted that ESSI is accelerating demand for tightly integrated sensor and missile solutions, with digital and software-defined modular designs enabling faster upgrades and improved performance across its radar family.

To date, the company has accumulated contracts for more than 150 radars under ESSI, including TRML-4D systems as well as Spexer short-range and Twinvis passive radars, highlighting the scale of its involvement in European air defense modernization.

The program continues to drive multinational cooperation as countries coordinate procurements to build interoperable and NATO-compatible air defense systems.
