Electro Optic Systems has been awarded a $42 million contract by a Middle Eastern customer to deliver its Slinger remote cannon-based counter-drone system, reflecting increasing demand amid ongoing regional instability.

The Slinger platform, shaped by operational lessons from conflicts such as the War in Ukraine, is designed to counter emerging drone threats. The agreement includes the supply of cannons, integration services, spare parts, training, and related equipment.

Manufacturing will take place in Australia, with deliveries extending through 2026. Although the customer has not been identified, EOS described it as a well-established defense contractor with multiple large-scale programs. The request for confidentiality was linked to national security considerations.

Designed as a low-cost alternative, Slinger enables engagements at a cost of roughly $100 to $1,000 per use, reducing dependence on more expensive counter-drone systems. It combines radar-based detection and tracking with a stabilized 30mm cannon and precision aiming technology, and can function either as a standalone unit or within integrated defense networks.

The system features both day and thermal imaging sensors, allowing detection at distances exceeding 12 kilometers, with recognition and identification ranges of 5.6 kilometers and 4.7 kilometers, respectively. A newer version incorporates assisted target recognition and autonomous capabilities to enhance efficiency in operations.

Separately, EOS secured additional contracts worth $3 million from a US customer for integration into a counter-drone solution, with production and delivery timelines also extending through 2026. The identities of all involved parties remain confidential.

The company further revealed that multiple Middle Eastern governments engaged in discussions in March regarding counter-drone technologies, including Slinger, the Apollo directed-energy system, and other protective solutions for critical infrastructure. EOS indicated that while regional dynamics could drive further demand, future orders are not assured.
