The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems contracts totaling $98 million to conduct scheduled maintenance and modernization activities at its San Diego shipyard.
The contracts apply to the littoral combat ship USS Kansas City and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stockdale, with both vessels slated to undergo work aimed at returning them to service-ready status.
BAE Systems will perform a $37 million docking selected restricted availability on Kansas City, which will involve drydocking the trimaran, preserving the underwater hull, upgrading onboard systems, and improving crew accommodations for its 41 sailors.
A separate $61 million package covers work on Stockdale, including hull preservation, refurbishment of the ship’s superstructure, reconditioning of fuel and ballast tanks, and upgrades to internal spaces and crew quarters.
Both maintenance periods are expected to begin in May 2026.
Commissioned in April 2009, Stockdale is the 56th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, while Kansas City represents the 12th ship of the Independence-class LCS variant.
The latest awards build on BAE Systems’ strong track record in U.S. Navy sustainment programs. Since 2022, the company has secured several high-value contracts, including a $177.8 million award in September 2024 for USS Halsey, a $202 million contract in November 2024 covering USS Laboon and USS Wasp, an $87 million repair contract for USS Carter Hall, and a $123 million depot modernization award in December 2025 for USS Forrest Sherman.
