Leonardo DRS has secured a $350,000 AI counter-drone order from Axon Vision to enhance US military and homeland security capabilities.
The systems will provide end-to-end detection, tracking, classification, and interception of aerial threats. Axon Vision’s solution combines rapid threat recognition—responding in under one second—with a modular architecture for integration on manned and unmanned ground and maritime platforms.
Leonardo plans to fold the technology into its existing mission systems portfolio, with performance assessments conducted through operational trials and live exercises. These evaluations will measure effectiveness in counter-UAS and mobile force protection scenarios while testing adaptability and deployment readiness.
The order reflects the growing emphasis on AI in US counter-drone operations, following initiatives by Shield AI, Anduril, Northrop Grumman, and RTX, which have leveraged autonomy, sensor fusion, and machine learning to enhance threat detection, tracking, and engagement.
