Washington has authorized the delivery of 3,350 ERAM (Extended Range Attack Munition) missiles to Ukraine, an arms package worth about $850 million (€780 million). Funded primarily by European partners, the first batch will arrive within six weeks. The timing of the approval—coming after President Donald Trump’s high-profile meetings with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky—highlights the strategic importance of the decision.
The ERAM is a next-generation guided standoff missile designed for Western combat aircraft, offering a strike range from 240 to 450 kilometers depending on launch conditions. Capable of targeting both stationary and mobile assets in high-threat electronic warfare environments, it gives Ukraine a much-needed deep-strike option. Unlike older or shorter-range systems, ERAM enables aircraft to remain outside dense air defenses while delivering precision attacks, greatly enhancing operational effectiveness and pilot safety.
